At Parkside Dental Care, we do all we can to save your natural teeth. We only have one set of teeth that are meant to last for our entire lives. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, but thankfully, we have the knowledge and ability to save as many teeth as we can. This is one of the reasons we stress the need for routine dental care. During routine appointments, we are able to spot problem areas in your mouth and recommend the right treatment. You should implement any treatment suggestions we make as soon as possible so that problems do not worsen. Dental decay will continue to get worse when not treated. A root canal is the last resort before an extraction.
A root canal is sometimes referred to as a “superhero dental treatment” because it is designed to save your natural tooth root. When you have dental decay and don’t treat it in a timely fashion, it will continue to grow and make its way through the tooth. Once decay reaches the pulp on the inside of the tooth and becomes infected, we will recommend a root canal. A root canal is the process of removing infected nerve tissue from the inside of the tooth. The root is then cleaned, disinfected, filled, and sealed. This treatment is often completed with a dental crown.
Many times, patients are afraid of a root canal based on images they’ve seen on television and in movies. Thanks to improvements in the treatment process and dental technology, root canals are a common treatment in our practice. In fact, the treatment itself is similar to a filling; it is just more involved and requires a longer treatment time.
If you are in Montgomery, AL or the surrounding area and in need of dental care or you feel like you may be in need of a root canal we can help. Be sure to contact our office, and one of our team members will help you schedule you an appointment. We look forward to restoring your oral health.
