Along with Halloween and other fun fall activities that we celebrate during the month of October, we have another reason to celebrate — honoring dental health! This is a reminder to evaluate the way you care for your oral health not only during this month, but each and every day. Maintaining proper oral health throughout the year can help prevent dental emergencies and the need for additional treatments.
This month is a great opportunity to re-evaluate the way you care for your teeth. Did you know that it is recommended to brush twice daily for two minutes? Many adults don’t realize how long two minutes truly is; therefore, we recommend setting a timer for two minutes the next few times you brush your teeth. Now is also a great time to inspect your toothbrush and replace it if needed. Toothbrush bristles should be standing straight and showing no signs of bending or wear. Don’t forget to leave the stiff-bristled brushes in the store and reach for a soft-bristled brush. Brushing your teeth too vigorously can harm the enamel of the teeth, leading to damage.
Our goal is to help our patients have a lifetime of healthy teeth. The best way to achieve that is to visit our office every six months for a routine hygiene examination and cleaning. Routine cleanings allow our hygienists to remove the build-up of plaque from around the teeth and gum line. This helps prevent cavity-causing bacteria from remaining on teeth for an extended period of time. The best way to maintain healthy teeth between appointments is to brush and use dental floss daily, being sure to clean properly between the teeth.
If you experience any discomfort or notice any irregularities with the appearance or feel of the teeth between appointments, be sure to contact our office located in Montgomery, AL as soon as possible. We want to remedy any issues before a larger problem develops. Don’t forget — if it has been longer than six months since your last cleaning, we need to see you soon!
