Dental Crowns: A Versatile Treatment

The Dental Crown Procedure
The dental crown treatment is completed within two dental visits. During the first visit, the dentist will shape the tooth on which the crown will be placed by taking off a small amount of enamel. This will allow the crown to have room to fit on the tooth. An impression is then made of the tooth and will be sent to a lab for fabrication. While the crown is made, the dentist will place a temporary crown on the tooth to protect it.

During the second visit, the permanent crown is placed on the tooth. A strong adhesive will bond the crown to the tooth making it a permanent placement. The dentist will adjust the crown as necessary to ensure a comfortable fit. You shouldn’t feel any difference once the crown is fitted properly. With the crown, you can chew as you normally would — no need to avoid certain foods.
