At Parkside Dental Care, we want the best for our patients’ oral health. We want our patients to have the knowledge about their dental health to know when something doesn’t feel right in the mouth. One common issue many of our patients experience is with their tooth enamel. Enamel is the outer covering that surrounds your teeth. Tooth enamel is actually the strongest substance in your body, but it is not indestructible, especially if you are not taking care of it properly.
Your tooth enamel is subject to constant wear and tear. Your teeth not only have to handle you chewing multiple times a day, but they also have to withstand you talking and outside elements. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for many people to use their teeth for something other than their intended purpose. Using your teeth as a tool in place of something such as scissors can cause them to wear prematurely and lead to future problems, such as cracking and breaking. Other things that can damage your tooth enamel include:
Our teeth often give us signs when the enamel is damaged. The two most common signs are discomfort and sensitivity. If you experience either of these issues, we recommend contacting our office to schedule an appointment. We also recommend inspecting your teeth regularly during your oral hygiene routine to ensure there are no signs of damage, such as cracks, chips, or breakage.
If you are located in the Montgomery, AL area and think your tooth enamel may be damaged, be sure to contact our office to schedule an appointment. We want to evaluate the state of your teeth as soon as possible to make repairs in a timely fashion to help prevent further damage to your teeth.
